The State Research Center for Virology and Biotechnology Vector has successfully completed preclinical trials of a vaccine against COVID-19.
The trials were carried out in order to confirm the efficacy and safety of vaccine; it involved 300 volunteers. This specified number of people is required to proceed to the first-second phases of clinical trials.
Termination of vaccine registration procedures is planned for the fall of this year. The subsequent transition to post-registration clinical trials is also foreseen.
Vector stated that there are three most promising vaccines against COVID-19: a recombinant vaccine based on vesicular stomatitis virus, a recombinant vaccine based on influenza A virus and a peptide vaccine.
In April 2020, the epidemic operational headquarters announced that the WHO had included nine Russian vaccines against COVID-19 in the list of promising drugs for treating COVID-19. Six of them were developed by Vector, two vaccines were created by BIOCAD and one by the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums. It should be noticed that the WHO have registered eight of these vaccines.
